Nusum’s side earn share of the spoils

John Barry Nusum's side drew 2-2 against Martinique

The Bermuda Under-15 side drew 2-2 with Martinique in their opening game in the Concacaf Boys’ Under-15 Championship at the IMG Academy Complex in Brandenton, Florida.

Bermuda found themselves trailing by two goals at half-time but fought back through goals from Seke Spence and Ne-Jai Tucker.

Coach John Barry Nusum said his team improved greatly after a slow start.

“We didn’t start the game particularly well,” said the former Bermuda captain. “The first half we didn’t battle like we should have and went down by two goals because of mental lapses.

“The second half was completely different and we dominated the possession and were rewarded with two goals.

“The first was a lovely move down the left flank and Dennis Zuill’s cross found Seke Spence who took a deft touch and slotted home.

“With time winding down we continued our pressure and won a free kick at the top of the box. Ne-Jai Tucker stepped up and slotted past the goalkeeper.”

Nusum, who is assisted by Cecoy Robinson — the PHC Zebras captain — added that he expects an “extreme test” against El Salvador today.

“The team showed a lot of guts and character to get back into today’s game and they will be ready for tomorrow,” Nusum said.

Bermuda have been pitted against El Salvador, Martinique and Cuba in group E of Division Two, with the top team advancing to the next round.

Bermuda play Cuba on Thursday. Honduras captured the inaugural title in 2013, topping a field of 22 teams in Cayman Islands.
