Four teams in hunt for B Division

Any one of four teams could win the B Division as play comes down to the final two weeks of the regular season.

Platano Power went top of the division when they beat X-Bats 18-14. Platano has finished all their games and has a one-point lead over X-Bats, who have a game in hand.

Albert Acevedo (4-4) hit a home run and drove in five in the victory. Team-mate Ravi Gomez came off the bench to go 3-3, and both Juan Salas and Leonardo Silveira drove home four runs.

Mark James (4-4) was perfect at the plate for X-Bats while his team-mates Andrew Bonner, Brett Farlow and Robbie Bailey were all 3-4.

Hakuna Mata Charters also have a shot at the title after slipping past the Beach Bums 19-17. Hakuna is three points back with one game to play.

In a back-and-forth contest, Hakuna kept their title hopes alive with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Scott Barnes was 3-3 with a pair of homers and Shannon Raynor knocked home six RBI in the win. Eva Frazzoni (3-5) and Brian Hall (4-4) also had nice turns at the dish in the win.

Edward DeSilva got it done at the bottom of the line-up for Beach Bums with a hitting clinic at the plate as he was a perfect 3-3, with three homers and six RBI. Pitcher Chris Montgomery tried to help his own cause by going 3-4.

Hakuna Mata face X-Bats at 7.30pm on Thursday. If X-Bats win, they take the division, if Hakuna win they go into a tie for first with Platano and will have to wait for the outcome of next week’s match between Chubb Kings and Team Smokey to see how the division spots fall out.

Chubb are the other team with title chances, and they beat Sunglass & Watch Shop 17 to 14 thanks to a dramatic walk-off homer by Les Dzwienka in the bottom of the seventh. Chubb is three points back with one game to play. It was Dzwienka’s second homer of the contest. Al Busby (3-4, 3 RBI), Kyle Smith (2-4, 5 RBI) and John Rolph (3-4, 2 RBI) all contributed to the triumph.

Adam Petty (3-4) and Steven Simons (3-4) did the bulk of the damage for Sunglass & Watch Shop as they plated four and six runs respectively. Sam Outerbridge (3-4) and Chris Sabean (3-3) also contributed to the Sunglass effort.

In A versus B Division games, Blue Wahoos reeled in a 32 to 8 triumph over the Corporation of Hamilton while Paraquet Flyers downed FIU Scared Hitless 21 to 12 and Docksiders extinguished Team Smokey 22 to 7.

Docksiders can complete their perfect season tomorrow at 9pm when they face winless Corporation of Hamilton.

Three clubs have a chance to lay claim to first place in the C Division.

Buffaloes slipped past Shooters 13 to 12 when Duncan Frith hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh. It was Frith’s second home run of the contest as he drove in six runs.

Team-mate Brent Giannone was 3-4, and Phil Froncioni was 2-3 with 2 RBI in the winning effort.

Shooters had scored three times in the top half of the seventh to give themselves an opportunity to win this match. Tyler Smith (3-3), Dylan DeSilva (4-5), and Jahrell Raynor (4-5) were the top bats for Shooters.

Buffaloes are 8-2 while Ragamuffins are 8-3 and Super Express is 7-4. Last week Raggamuffins beat Deloitte 28 to 22, and they also derailed Super Express 25 to 2 in a crucial match-up. None of the teams play each other the rest of the way.

In the women’s division, Angels topped PHC Zebras 19-4. Angels are five points behind Hardknockz but will pick up a default victory against Outback Skylights.

Angels and Hardknockz will face off for the division title on Wednesday at 9pm. Harknockz won two of three previous meetings this season.

In the Corporate Division, Sea Venture Mini Me’s had a 26-11 mercy victory over Butterfield and Vallis Sliders. Sea Venture are 9-0 and needs one win in their last three matches to win the division.

All games are played on Mondays through Thursday at Michael Preece Stadium at Bernard Park starting at 6pm.
