‘Burger’ back on the airwaves

Mark 'Burger' Jennings

The popular talk radio personality Mark Jennings is returning to the airwaves after a four-month absence with a new show.

Mark “Burger” Jennings Sports Machine makes its debut on Vibe 103FM, with Jennings joined in the booth by freelance journalist Patrick Bean.

Jennings was the voice behind Sports Zone on Magic 102.7FM before making an abrupt departure. His new show, which airs from 6pm to 8pm on Sundays, carries on in the same vein of highlighting local and overseas sport.

“This was a station that was just music, so this is the first time we’re going into talk radio,” Jennings said. “It should be good, I’ve been working with Zarah Harper, the CEO.

“It’s been in the works for a while; she’s giving us a nice opportunity to join the Vibe family.”

Jennings said he has missed being on the air and is looking forward to getting back. “I’m glad they are providing me with an opportunity to get back into sports talk radio,” he said.

“Hopefully it comes off as nice and fresh. We hope to attract a younger audience as well.”

Jennings was saddened to hear of the passing of Leroy “Tubby” Richardson, the oldest living former Cup Match player, who had been a guest on Sports Zone.

“I was glad to meet him, talk to him and befriend him,” Jennings said. “Even though I only knew him a short period, it felt like I’d known him all my life.

“Otherwise, I might never have met Mr Richardson; that’s why I really miss the show.”
