All hail Caesar!Local bodybuilder Ross Caesar (medal around neck) received a hero's welcome home after securing a pro card at last weekend's Joe Weider's Olympic Amateur South America in Medellin, Colombia.

Ross Caesar received a hero’s welcome at the airport on Thursday night upon his triumphant return from the Joe Weider’s Olympic Amateur South America in Medellin, Colombia.

A group of supporters were on hand to greet the experienced bodybuilder who earned an International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness professional card after securing the men’s classic Physique A class title at last weekend’s event.

“I wasn’t expecting it and obviously it was a really pleasant surprise to be greeted that way,” said Caesar, who is from Barbados. “It made me feel very appreciated.

“Winning the pro card was something I have been working on for a while and to have people greet me in that way I felt blessed.

“It’s a blessing when people appreciate you and probably witnessed throughout the years how much work and attention you pay to your art.”

The Ultimate Fitness Club trainer and six-times “Mr Bermuda” was also second overall in the Men’s Classic Physique and fourth in his bodybuilding class.

“I’m so proud of Ross and glad that he’s finally had the opportunity to receive his pro card,” Melanie DeRosa, the first and only Bermudian professional bodybuilder, said.

“I appreciate the fact that he is so humble. He never complains, he just puts his head down and gets it done.

“I think it’s a great example of perseverance and dedication; just always being positive and never giving up on your dreams.”

Sue Rebello, a five-times “Ms Bermuda” title holder, said Caesar’s success has inspired everyone at the Devonshire gym.

“We are so proud of Ross and excited for him,” she said. “He has worked very hard for a long time and I can’t think of anyone who deserves this more.

“He has inspired the rest of us to hit the gym with renewed vigour.”

Sunder Singh, who is coached by Caesar, added: “Ross has shown for a small island we can still match some of the top athletes. He’s the embodiment of discipline, determination, sacrifice and commitment.”
