War Machine sets fastest time

War Machine produced the fastest time for the second straight race day during weekend harness racing at Vesey Street.The gelding, jointly owned by Colin Mello, the Driving Horse and Pony Club president, stopped the clock at 1:02/3 competing in the free for all division.Kayla Caldwell, Mello’s daughter, was at the helm of the former track and gelding record holder, whose time was a fifth of a second quicker than his previous season best of 1:02/4 achieved the previous race day at the Bermuda Equestrian Centre.War Machine’s time was just two fifths of a second shy of the season’s fastest time of 1:02/1 achieved by Charles Whited’s gelding, Gold N Glory, last month.The track record stands at 1:01/1 and is held by Robert and Tyler Lopes’s mare, Google Me, that produced the second fastest time at the weekend of 1:03 flat, also competing in the free for all division with Candyce Martins in the sulky.Simsfield Stables had an impressive double after two of their free for all ponies ran the third fastest time on the day.Simsfield Hardtimes and Double Time posted identical times of 1:03/1 in the free for all with driver Dylan DeSilva at the helm.Pocket De Gold (1:03/2), Itsallaboute (1:03/2 and 1:03/4), Gold N Glory (1:03/3), Reel Patrol (1:03/3 and 1:03/3), Inwood’s Progress (1:03/4) and Rockeyed Optimist (1:03/4) were the remaining ponies producing sub-1:04 times on the day as times continued to heat up.Simsfield Hardtimes and Justintime, owned by the Burrows Family, were the only multiple heat winners during the last race day. Kiwon Waldron achieved the most victories among the drivers having secured five of them competing with four different ponies.Christian Truran and Martins were the remaining drivers producing multiple heat wins.
