Nahki Wells has been recalled by Burnley from his loan spell at Sky Bet Championship side Queens Park Rangers.The Bermuda forward joined the West London outfit in August on a season-long loan after a successful 2018-19 campaign in which he scored nine goals in 48 appearances.However, the Premier League side have exercised their option to curtail the loan agreement and have brought Wells back to Turf Moor to determine his long-term future before the January transfer window closes on Friday.The 29-year-old has thrived this season, scoring 15 goals for QPR in all competitions. He also has the highest shots on target percentage in the second tier.Despite having been recalled by his parent club, QPR remain keen to sign Wells on a permanent basis, according to Lee Hoos, the club’s chief executive.“Burnley have recalled Nahki, which is their right,” he told the club’s website.“I wouldn’t normally make any comments regarding potential transfer targets, but in this instance it is important our supporters know we are keen to sign Nahki on a permanent basis.“Our current valuations on the player are far apart and we cannot agree to a deal, which will leave us in breach of FFP [Financial Fair Play].“We are working hard for a positive conclusion, but we must ensure any agreement is financially viable for QPR.”QPR’s Championship rivals Bristol City and Nottingham Forest have also been linked with a move for Wells before the transfer deadline expires.Burnley signed Wells for £5 million in 2017 and made nine substitute appearances for them during the 2017-18 season before being loaned to QPR.Wells could yet stay at Burnley and be part of Sean Dyche’s squad for the remainder of the campaign, according to Sky Sports.However, the Lancashire side are interested in Bristol City midfielder Josh Brownhill and could look to send Wells in the opposite direction as part of an exchange deal. It is understood Burnley value Wells at about £4 million.Wells played a significant role in Bermuda qualifying for the Concacaf Gold Cup for the first time after finishing fifth in the Nations League qualifiers with a record of three wins and one defeat.He netted the winner in the final two Nations League qualifiers at home to El Salvador and away to Dominican Republic.The former Dandy Town player was also on target in an historic 2-0 win over Nicaragua at the Gold Cup last summer and carried his good form into the Nations League, scoring twice in a 2-0 win away to Panama in September and in a 5-1 defeat at home to Mexico in October.
