Marshall triumphs as Sealey slips

Sports Staff Saltus Grammar School won two of the four divisions at the Bermuda School Sports Federation Senior School Cross-Country Championships at the Arboretum yesterday. Tommy Marshall won his duel with fellow Carifta Games qualifier Kazhi Sealey in the under-16 boys’ division. The pair were neck and neck before Sealey, of Berkeley Institute, tripped on the second lap of the course, which enabled Marshall, of Saltus, to cruise to victory in a time of 10min 52sec. Sealey recovered to finish second in 11:14 while another Carifta qualifier, Sancho Smith of Saltus, placed third in 11:50. Saltus had five runners finish in the top ten, giving them the team award with 24 points. Berkeley finished second on 36 points while Warwick Academy rounded out the top three with 68 points. Warwick Academy’s Shayla Cann led from start to finish to win the under-16 girls’ division with a time of 13:51. Berkeley’s Jezhari Talbot finished four seconds later and ahead of Liana Medeiros, of Mount Saint Agnes Academy, in 14:35. However, Saltus won the division despite not having any podium finishers. Their top five runners accumulated 40 points, ahead of Warwick Academy’s 49 while Bermuda High School was a distant third on 76. BHS’s Meron Simons proved too strong for her fellow over-16 girls’ runners as she crossed the line first in 13:53. Kayla Raymond, of MSA, finished second in 14:32 while Warwick’s Ariel Taylor claimed the bronze in 14:44. Warwick finished as division winners with 34 points followed by Saltus on 43 and BHS on 79.The Berkeley pair of Ryan Outerbridge and Iziah Tucker led their school to first team honours after they finished first and second in 15.98 and 16.11. Alexander Miller from Warwick finished third in a time of 16.31. Berkeley claimed the top prize with 25 points followed by Warwick with 55 and Saltus on 70.
