Tevahn Tyrell is hoping to “hit the ground running” at Durham City and is determined to make the most of his second chance in English non-League football.Tyrell, 22, signed for the National League Division Two side on Tuesday and trained with his new team-mates for the first time yesterday, just 24 hours after arriving in England.“I’m in good form coming off four goals in three games for Robin Hood,” the Bermuda forward said. “I feel like it’s the best time for me to hit the ground running.”Tyrell is thankful to John Woolnough, the Durham City director of football, who was influential in bringing him to Hall Lane.“John believes in me and I’m just going to work my socks off for him,” Tyrell said. “I feel like that is the least I can give him for the faith he has shown in me, which is so appreciated.“This is all I’ve wanted, a chance like this, and I am just grateful that somebody wants to take a chance on me again. To find someone that actually believes in you is such a good thing. “It has definitely boosted my confidence and I feel this is the perfect opportunity for me. “I just want to play for the team and when you know someone believes in you and gives you a chance, you just want to repay the faith they have in you.”Tyrell, who missed out on selection for the Concacaf Gold Cup last summer, arrives at Durham City with previous experience playing in England with Northern Premier League sides Ilkeston and Mickleover Sports.“It’s definitely an advantage and I feel like it will be a lot easier to adapt,” Tyrell said. “I feel accustomed to the area and fit into the system and style of play.”Tyrell attended a trial at Darlington last summer, but was unable to secure a deal and suffered a shoulder injury during a match and returned to Bermuda.After doing some soul searching, he has managed to get his career back on track and is now keen to make an impact in the English game.“I just feel that I am at a stage now where I am confident, I’m happy and loving playing,” said Tyrell, who scored in his final game for Robin Hood in their FA Cup quarter-final match at home to Somerset Trojans last weekend. “I’m enjoying my football and it’s good to be back.”Durham, who are bottom of the table with eight points from 25 matches, are at home to Esh Winning tomorrow.
