Harbour Club to host Docksider Open

The Trunk Island Swim will be held this month

The Harbour Swimming Club will hold the Docksider Harbour Open at the Aquatics Centre at the National Sports Centre on Friday, June 24.

The event is open to swimmers from all local clubs as well as the burgeoning Masters programme.

Stephen Castree, the Harbour president, said the meet would serve as good preparation for those swimmers competing in the Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships in Bahamas this month.

“The Harbour Open Meet is a pre-summer vacation meet, designed to give the swimmers one last chance to make some improvements before the summer break and also to allow those representing Bermuda at the CISC Championships to have a last race in a long-course pool prior to departing.

“It’s a competitive swimming meet, but also a celebration of the sport and the successful season we have had from all involved with Bermuda Swimming.”

The meet is sanctioned by the Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association.

It is open to all swimmers, of all ages, from any country and has been promoted into several United States East Coast Clubs who hope to place the meet on their calendars for future years.

Reed Young, of the event sponsor, Docksider, said: “Docksider has been associated with Harbour Swimming Club for many years and is proud to support this event.

“Swimming is a fantastic sport to develop life skills through the teamwork and dedication required to succeed.”

The Trunk Island swim will be held within days after the Docksider Harbour Open.

Nick Strong, the president of BASA, said: “By having the two together, and with the planned increases in schedule for 2017, this represents a great opportunity for swimming to support the sports tourism initiatives by bringing in age group swimming clubs as well as Masters swimmers to participate in the event, making it a fast, and fun, event.’
