Julian Fletcher broke his own national record in the 50 metres breaststroke at the Fina/airweave World Cup Singapore at the weekend.

He finished thirteenth in the 50, posting a time of 28.65sec to beat the previous record he set at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar, in 2014.

The 26-year-old also placed twelfth in the 200 in 2:21.44 and fourteenth in the 100 in 1:02.92.

Fletcher is competing for cash prizes at a cluster of short-course World Cup events in South Asia, with competitions to be held today and tomorrow in Tokyo and Hong Kong on Friday and Saturday.

“I’m pleased with the results from the meet and hope to get better in the next two meets of the World Cup cluster,” Fletcher said.

“It’s taken me a few days to get over the jet lag of flying to Asia, but I’m excited to be out here representing Bermuda.”

Fletcher made his Olympic debut in Rio in the summer, finishing third in his 100 heat in 1:02.73.

He has previously competed at the Pan Am Games in Toronto last summer and Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.
