Warwick’s Williamson smashes UK age record

Williamson broke the British under-12 50m breastroke record over the weekend

A young Warwick Academy swimmer has broken the fifteen-year-old British under-12 50 metres breaststroke record — twice.

Sam Williamson, pictured, who swims for Sharks, broke the record at the National Stadium over the weekend with a time of 33.03 sec before being invited to try and break the mark again by Harbour Amateur Swim Club. He duly did with an even more impressive time of 32.84.

Williamson was born in Bermuda, but his parents are British, meaning that he cannot swim for the island at anything higher than Carifta level.

The previous British record was 33.24 sec, set back in 2001.

Williamson, who also represents the Hatfield Swim Club in Hertfordshire, added to his impressive haul by setting a new Bermuda record in the 100m breaststroke, as well as smashing Stephen Fahy’s 26-year-old Bermuda record of 2min 37.87sec with a time of 2:30.41 in the 200 metres individual medley. swam 100m breast where he swam a personal best and new Bermuda record.

“[It is] just an incredible feat,” Jane Vickers, the Warwick Academy director of development. said.

“These children train so hard and are so dedicated.

“He also played in the finals of the Warwick Academy soccer tournament this weekend too. [I’ve] no idea how he did it.”
