Bermuda Olympians set records

New records: Fletcher lowered his 100-metres breastroke national record in Canada

Bermudian swimmers Julian Fletcher and Rebecca Heyliger both set national records at the Fina Short Course World Championships in Windsor, Ontario.

Both swimmers competed in three events each at the six-day event, with Fletcher lowering his 100-metres breaststroke record to 1min 01.56sec, finishing 55th to miss out on the semi-finals.

His 50 split was also a national record, Fletcher lowering his best from 28.50 to 28.33.

Fletcher also broke Graham Smith’s 13-year-old national best in the 100 individual medley, lowering the record from 59.70 to 59.15. He also finished 54th in the 50 breast in 28.42.

Heyliger, who trains at a club in Denmark, finished 46th in the 100 freestyle in 56.15. She also placed 46th in the 50 fly in 28.43 and set a national record in the 50 freestyle in 25.79.

Both swimmers represented Bermuda at this year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
