Jesse Washington set two personal bests as he finished eighth in the boys 100 metres final at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassau, Bahamas last night.

The Bermudian finished the final in 56.42sec, smashing his pre-tournament PB of 56.88.

In his heat yesterday morning, Washington finished third with a time of 56.85, swimming within 0.03sec of his previous best.

Lewis Fraser won gold for Wales in a time of 53.87, with Singaporeans Dylan Koo and Jung Yi Ong taking silver and bronze in times of 54.32 and 54.35 respectively.

Washington was part of a successful campaign for Bermuda at the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Trinidad & Tobago, winning silver medals in the 50 and 100 freestyle, as well as the 50 butterfly.

Washington competed in his final regional youth competition at the Carifta Games in the Bahamas in April. The former Junior Male Athlete of the Year signed off in style, bagging three medals, four age-group records and a Carifta record.

On her day off from the regulation swimming, Madelyn Moore opted to do a time trial in the 50m butterfly and successfully improved on her personal best by 0.3sec.
