Records tumble at Best of Best Championships
Twenty national records fell in the Best of Best Shipping Age Group Championships this weekend. The highlight was when Jesse Washington, who set five individual records this weekend, took Jason Mastalir’s 17-18 200 freestyle record of 1min 54.07sec from February 2009, by swimming 1:52.40.
Washington’s swim is also the Bermuda Open record, beating Ronald Cowen’s mark of 1:52.79 from 2002.
Washington had the final record of the weekend in the 100 butterfly, breaking Michael O’Connor’s 17-18 record of 58.44 with a time of 57.06.
He also set records in the 17-18 100 free, with a time of 51.27, the 17-18 100 fly with 25.56 and the 17-18 50 backstroke with 27.47.
Washington, Keagan Woolley, Joshua Thorne, Lewis Sweeney also set a mark for the 17-18 4x50 medley relay 17-18, smashing the previous mark of 2:07.24 by swimming 1:59.85.
Woolley, Logan Watson-Brown, Sam Williamson and Jack Harvey were also multiple record-breakers.
Woolley, in the 15-16 age group, lowered his record set in morning in the 50 breast with a time of 31.32. Wooley also set a time of 2:36.03 in the 15-16 200 breast.
Watson-Brown broke the 13-14 girls’ 200 freestyle twice, with the new mark being 2:07.07. She then broke the 400 free 13-14 girls mark with a time of 4:32.75.
Williamson broke the 13-14 50 breaststroke mark with 31.22 and the 13-14 100 breast with 1:10.74.
Harvey set the 13-14 400 IM mark with 5:03.16 and the 13-14 200 backstroke old in 2:14.90.
Brett Smith broke the 15-16 50 back mark in 28.43.
