Graham Moss helped guide Bermuda to their first win in the boys team competition at the Junior Caribbean Championships in Guyana yesterday.

Moss, one of four players representing the island for the first time, won his boys under-13 tie to snap a deadlock and earn Bermuda a hard-fought 3-2 triumph over Jamaica in the best-of-five series.

The result lifted the island’s confidence after losing 4-1 against defending team champions Guyana on Wednesday.

Taylor Carrick earned Bermuda’s sole point against the host nation in stunning fashion after coming back from two sets and a match-ball down to win his tie.

Bermuda were scheduled to take on Trinidad and Tobago last night before facing Barbados in their final group match today.

The format for the team competition is singles with each team comprised of a mixture of age groups with the order of individual ties changed daily.

The top two teams at the end of the group phase of the competition will advance to the semi-finals.

Bermuda won the boys team title when the annual tournament was held in Jamaica in 2012, with Dylan Pratt and Noah Browne claiming bragging rights in their respective age-group.

Bermuda impressed during the singles competition in Guyana this week, with three of the island’s nine-member squad reaching the semi-finals in their age groups.

Charlie Riker lost 11-1, 11-7, 11-4, 11-6, 11-3 in his under-15 boys semi-final against Trinidad’s Christopher Anthony, while Carrick went down 11-9, 11-1, 11-1 against Khamal Cumberbatch, of the United States, in the under-17 boys semis.

Hailey Moss, who is also representing Bermuda for the first time, lost to Guyana’s Paige Fernandes 11-5, 11-3, 11-6 in the under-13 girls semi-final.
