Top squash players set for exhibition on island

One of the best: England’s Duncalf will play in Bermuda this month

Rachel Grinham and Jenny Duncalf, two of the world’s best women’s squash players, are bringing their talents to Bermuda.

The pair will take part in an exhibition evening that forms part of the Conyers Classic Squash Tournament at the Bermuda Squash & Fitness Club in Devonshire on Monday, August 21

Grinham, 40, of Australia, is a former world No 1 while England’s Duncalf is a former world No 2. They are fresh off competing at the World Doubles Championships in Manchester, England, last week where Grinham won bronze in the mixed and women’s divisions while Duncalf claimed silver in the women’s event.

Duncalf, 34, said she was excited about her first visit to Bermuda.

“Rachel and I can’t wait to get to Bermuda,” Duncalf said. “We have heard all about this beautiful island and are thrilled to finally get the chance to visit.

“Both of us are just off the back of a doubles event and are keen to relax, enjoy the island and then head to China for our next big tournament.”

The Conyers Classic Squash tournament will be held from August 19 to 20 and will feature four skills-graded divisions showcasing some of the best players the island has to offer such as Noah Browne, who is ranked No 208 in the world.

“Noah Browne heads the elite draw and to top it all off we have two of the best female players ever here to treat the crowds to a fun exhibition,” said Patrick Foster, the Bermuda Squash & Fitness Club director of squash.

“We are all really looking forward to playing this great event in what is usually a quiet time of year for us. We have 50-plus players involved, aged ten to 60 years old. It’s going to be a very busy, fun weekend.”

The Conyers World Class Pro Squash Exhibition will take place on Monday, August 21 starting at 6pm.

Tickets for the event are $20. For more details call 292-6881.
