Tropical Storm Arthur has weakened, but its remnants are expected to pass over the island later this week.As of noon the US-based National Hurricane Centre said the system, the first tropical storm of the year, has become a post-tropical cycloneThe Bermuda Weather Service said Tropical Storm Arthur would pass to the “distant northwest” of Bermuda today before it curved sharply and headed back towards the island.The BWS 11.30am forecast said: “Arthur will move to our northwest today whilst becoming post-tropical and drawing warm and moist tropical air over Bermuda. “The remnants of Arthur is then expected to recurve to the east then south and then passes nearby late tomorrow. “It will be accompanied by showery and breezy conditions before it dissipates and exits to our southeast on Thursday with lowering humidity and gradual settling late in the week.”Arthur was 378 miles northwest of Bermuda at noon today, moving east at 15mph with 57mph winds and 69mph gusts. The system will weaken, but is expected to still have winds of 35mph with stronger gusts when it passes the island tomorrow night.
