Learning what floats boats?

Bobbing along: BHS year 5 students learn about water

Charlotte Millington Year 5

This term in our topic lesson, we have been learning about rivers and water.

The Year 5 students had to bring in recycled materials, and we were put into groups of three or four. Then we used the items that we brought in to build boats.

To get everything to stay together, we had to tape and glue (it got quite difficult.)

Soon after, we filled a big box full of water and we tested the boats to see if they would float. Then the groups had to rate the boats.

Now we are learning about the stages and features of a river. In computers we have to go on websites to look up information about them then we go over the answers in class.

A few days ago we went on the iPads and there was a picture of the Thames River. There was a box underneath where we had to write a descriptive paragraph.

We also watched a video about why people would agree or disagree about living near or by a river. That is what we have done with rivers and water so far.
