Confessions of a cosmetologist

CedarBridge Academy's Daliah Gibbs stars in the Confessions of a Cosmetologist, the hair and dance show

CedarBridge Academy’s Personal Care and Dance in Society students in partnership with Impressions Hair & Nails Artistry, hosted their annual hair show on the night of Saturday, May 20.

The show was held in CedarBridge’s Ruth Seaton James Auditorium where a variety of looks were modelled inspired by the past few decades, starting at the 1920s. With a total of 13 stylists and several models and dancers, the show was said to be a complete success. It was a collective effort by teachers, Ms Vivian Millings, Mrs Shoa Wolfe and Ms Patricia Nesbitt. They played a major role in assisting the students, organising the entire event, outfits, scenes and inspiration for the whole show.

Ms Nesbitt, performing arts teacher at CedarBridge wrote the script which provided an understanding of the inspiration of the show, which was hair styles through history.

Ms Tona Landy, visual arts teacher at CedarBridge, who played a lead role in the show between scenes said “with this our first hair and dance show combined, we have set the bar very high for ourselves, and we can only go up hill from here” Also, when asked about the importance and benefits of these kinds of events to the students aspiring to work in the cosmetology industry she explained that “it gives children an appreciation of what it takes to become an excellent cosmetologist. You need hard work, dedication, and commitment to the craft. You have to stay informed of new techniques required to be a skilled professional in the industry, and also be aware of the history of hair styling.

Model and S3 student, Daliah Gibbs when describing her experience as a model for the show said “I personally enjoyed the whole experience because it gave me a chance to come out of my shell and be a whole different person and to simply express myself more. I would have never imagined myself doing something like this in middle school, but it’s an opportunity to explore your talents and interests; therefore, I participated and enjoyed every moment. I feel like it was beneficial to all of the people involved including the stylists, models and dancers. I’m definitely looking forward to participating next year.”
