A great way to get involved in drama!

Sizzling showcase: Year 7, 8 and 9s rehearsing for their Summer Showcase

This year, for the first time, Warwick Academy is holding a ‘Summer Showcase’, with three sections: Year 7’s, Year 8’s and Year 9’s. The showcase will be several scenes of one area for each year, with a group of around eight for each of the three classes of each year group. The skits are on subjects that the year has done in their drama class.

The showcase will take place towards the end of June, with all scenes being made by the students and not Mr. Rogers, our Drama teacher. He has set a plan for our scenes, but all the details are up to us.

For Year 8s, the year I am in, the subject we are doing is ‘life in the year 2217’.

It is not a Utopia, but rather a life planned by the intimidating government, who track your every move.

I am in group one — the first class — which does the first and fourth scenes, as the other two classes are doing the second, third, and fifth scenes.

I think it is a very interesting area of drama, performing a scene scripted, choreographed, and acted out by yourself and a few other individuals.

Overall, it is a great way for younger students to get involved in drama if they enjoy it, but maybe aren’t quite confident enough for the full-blown school play or haven’t gotten a part. I am thoroughly looking forward to it, and I hope that many others are too, and will come and watch us act.

The performance is Thursday, June 22 at 6pm in Warwick Academy’s main school hall (PPMH) and the admission is free. Please do come out to support our hard work.
