Edward VII Memorial Hospital last night after a single vehicle accident at the weekend.

The teenager suffered serious head injuries after a cycle he was riding on struck a stone wall while traveling west on North Shore Road, Hamilton Parish about 10 p.m.

A Police report said that another man, who was also on the bike at the time, was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired and then failed the alco-analyser test.

A Police spokesperson said the accident appeared to have happened when the men turned their heads to speak to acquaintances while they attempted to make a right hand bend. The cycle was severely damaged and was deemed completely written off.

Police are making further inquiries into the incident and are asking anyone with information to contact WPc Burgess at St. George's Police Station, 297-1122.

And now the family of Dennis Butterfield is asking that truck drivers secure all loads to prevent similar accidents in future.

Mr. Butterfield was released from King Edward VII Memorial Hospital on Friday in good condition. He was admitted immediately after his accident on July 24, which occurred while travelling west along Middle Road in Paget.

Mr. Butterfield suffered a lacerated liver causing internal bleeding, two broken arm bones and five broken ribs as a result of the accident.

In a Letter to the Editor, Mr. Butterfield's daughter, 19-year-old Denneica, said: "Truck drivers... please make sure your loads are properly secured because it could save another person from the agony my father has suffered.

"The next time an accident like this occurs, the end result could be much worse.'' Mr. Butterfield's wife, Joy, said her daughters were very disappointed because the accident had forced them to forgo a trip.
