Village dominate Cougars

North Village 3 Devonshire Cougars 0

North Village battered Devonshire Cougars into submission at Bernard Park.

If not for some dreadfully poor finishing on Village’s part, they may well have doubled the scoreline.

In the tenth minute, Village offered a precursor of things to come when Keishen Bean drilled his ten-yard shot just wide.

Cougars launched their own attack a minute later when Darren Williams provided a perfect pass to LoVintz Tota that split the Village defence.

However, Tota could only watch in dismay as Tahj Bell, the Village’s goalkeeper, pulled of a reflex save, steering the ball clear of danger.

Village opened the scoring in the fourteenth minute when they were gifted a goal after some miscommunication between Cougars’ goalkeeper Xyon Outerbridge-Smith and a defender.

A long ball into the Cougars’ penalty area saw Outerbridge-Smith advance late off his line. The resulting miscommunication allowed the ball to somehow ricochet, allowing Village winger Lashun Dill to chase the ball down and slot it into an open net.

Village’s second goal came in the 20th minute, courtesy of Demetre Daniels. With no defender covering, Daniels dribbled the ball into Cougars’ penalty area and, unmolested, got off a blistering shot which nestled inside the post.

In the 50th minute, Village Shane Hollis missed a glorious opportunity when he missed a sitter with only the goalkeeper to beat.

However, Hollis redeemed himself when he won his side a penalty after being brought down in the box by Zeko White, the Cougars captain. Hollis stepped up and planted his firm shot just inside the post.
