Simons, Maxwell riding high

plenty of spirit among competitors and that was in full view on Sunday at Coney Island.

It began in the first moto in the 80cc class after Kemo Simons and Jamel Hassell were forced to ride from the back of the pack after they bumbed each other at the start. Despite the early setback they recovered brilliantly to finish one and two in that order as class leader Simons began his quest for another clean sweep.

He accomplished just that as Hassell finished with two second place finishes with a ninth sandwiched in between to finish third overall. Jason DeSilva was second with two thirds and a fourth while Jaime Ford was fourth for the day with two fifths and a second.

Chris Maxwell also had a clean sweep of his 125 C class as his three firsts enabled him to extend his points lead by 45 points. Mike Burgess (fourth, two seconds) and Kyle Constable (second, fourth and non-start) completed the top three.

Donnie Moss saw things go his own way in the 250 C class with three firsts while Jason Harrell was second.

The three motos in the 125 B class produced three different winners as Buddy Joell, Aaron Pace and Robbie Smith shared the honours. Top rider for the day was Pace who followed up with two seconds in a steady day of riding while Joell had a second and a third to go with his win in the opening race.

Smith bounced back from two sixth places to win the final race of the day and take third overall.
