A crash in which a teen motorist alleges that a police officer may have struck him and then driven off is now under investigation.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the collision, which occurred on Thursday at about 7.10pm on North Shore Road, Devonshire, near Barkers Hill.

The 16-year-old driver of an auxiliary cycle maintained that an oncoming motorcycle clipped his bike, knocking him off. He was treated in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for “non-life threatening injuries to his arm, leg and back”, a police spokesman said. “The offending motorcyclist did not stop, and the injured young man has told investigators that he thought the rider was wearing a florescent jacket and might be a police officer,” the spokesman added.

“The Bermuda Police Service has appointed Detective Sergeant Brian Mello of the BPS Professional Conduct Unit to investigate the incident, assisted by a specialist Traffic Collision Investigator. It is hoped that the appeal for witnesses will assist that investigation. The BPS has also informed the independent Police Complaints Authority.”
