Two proposals for Grand Atlantic
Government is looking at two separate proposals for the future of the Grand Atlantic development in Warwick.
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Public Works said that a pair of submissions were received in response to a Request for Proposal published in May.
Both submissions are still being reviewed, with the spokeswoman adding: “There will be further information revealed in the next few weeks”.
The buildings on the South Shore site, completed in 2011, were originally erected for the purposes of affordable housing.
A total of 60 two-bedroom units and 18 three-bedroom units were built, despite concerns from groups like the Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce about the project’s proximity to a cliff face, but only one of the units sold.
Government announced that it would seek other options for the property and, following a request for proposal process, a memorandum of understanding was signed with developers Mac Lellan and Associates.
The developer announced plans to turn the property into a condo hotel referred to as the Bermudiana Beach Resort.
However, the sale of the property fell through due to difficulty securing financing, and a fresh request for proposal was published earlier this year.
