Berry shows Carifta credentials
Ashley Berry outlined her Carifta Games credentials with an impressive performance at the Duke Invitational in the US.Berry’s selection in Bermuda’s team came under scrutiny last week after she was selected ahead of Taylor Ashley-Bean who won a bronze at last year’s Games.But Berry showed her quality by finishing the 1,500m in a time of four minutes, 47.04 seconds on Friday, and then smashed her Bermuda junior 3,000m record with a time of 10:23.50.She came 13th out of 25 athletes in the 3,000m.Donna Watson, Bermuda Track and Field Association (BTFA) president, said: “This was Ashley’s first 3,000m for the season. This puts Ashley in great shape for the upcoming Carifta Games. Ashley has now qualified for the 1,500m and 3,000m at the Pan Am Juniors, which are being held in Miramar, Florida, in July.Other notable performances this weekend included Latroya Darrell who placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.83m at the Spec town Invitational,Jasmine Bronson was in action in Texas Relays and placed seventh in the triple jump (12.40m).Sprinter Tre Houston competed in this first track meet of the season at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee event. He was fourth in the 100m in a time of 10.98 seconds, and sixth in the 200m in a time of 21.87.Henry Stevens Carty finished third in the 800m in a time of 1:52.19 at the FSU Seminole Invitational in Tallahassee, Florida.
