Kind-hearted airport staff, police praised

Brian Millington, 81

An 81-year-old man has thanked kind-hearted airport staff and the police for helping him out of a spot of bother when he arrived in Bermuda.

Brian Millington, from Lancashire, England, found himself in a panic when he arrived on Wednesday and had to wait for almost four hours to be picked up by his daughter after a mix-up over his arrival date.

Everything eventually worked out fine, but Mr Millington was so pleased with the help he received from staff and police that he contacted The Royal Gazette to praise their generosity.

“I thought there was something really wrong, so I waited and waited, and I thought that maybe my granddaughter had taken ill and gone to hospital so I waited,” he said.

“A few people came up to me and asked if they could ring her for me, but I didn’t have her telephone number. So the response lady from the airport came over and asked to help make contact, but the phones were down.

“She then took me over to the police station and the constable there was very helpful.”

The police constable finally managed to reach Mr Millington’s daughter at almost 10pm and make her aware that her father was ready for collection.

Update: this story has been amended to confirm there was a mix-up over Mr Millington’s arrival date, which was believed to be 24 hours later
