Foster Wheeler returns to profit
NEW YORK (Dow Jones/AP) ? Foster Wheeler Ltd. reported a profit in the latest quarter as the company's power unit rebounded, outpacing a decline in revenue at the company's flagship engineering and construction unit.
The Hamilton, Bermuda, engineering and construction company on Tuesday said it earned $1.2 million, or two cents a share, on revenue of $523.1 million in the fiscal first quarter ended April 1.
In the same period a year ago, it lost $4.3 million, or ten cents a share, on revenue of $666.4 million. The per-share figure is adjusted for a 1-for-20 reverse stock split in November.
Operating revenue fell to $523.1 million from $666.4 million last year.
Foster Wheeler's engineering and construction unit saw operating income slip to $15.1 million from $20.4 million in the year-ago period, which included several large projects.
The company's global power unit earned $10.2 million after losing $887,000 last year.
Foster Wheeler shares fell 72 cents, or 4.5 percent, to $15.47 in midday trading on the over-the-counter Bulletin Board.
