The Causeway is expected to be closed for five hours on Sunday morning.

A Bermuda Police service spokesman said the road will be closed to traffic, between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m., but preference will be given to those travelling to the airport and emergency vehicles.

The Causeway will be closed because the Department of Works and Engineering will be moving heavy asphalt laying equipment from Pennos Wharf, St. George's to the Baileys Bay Government Quarry.

The Police will be offering an escort from Pennos Wharf, via Wellington Street, Mullett Bay Road, Kindley Field Road, the Causeway, Blue Hole Hill, Wilkinson Avenue and onto Harrington Sound Road to the Government quarry.

The asphalt plant equipment includes nine abnormal loads. The largest piece of machinery being moved is a 70-foot long trailer, which is 12-foot-six-inches wide and just over 15-foot tall.

The spokesman said they were expecting serious delays on the Swing Bridge and the Causeway, as the load will be required to travel by trailer at a slow walking pace in order to spread the weight of the load.

This will result in the Causeway being impassable.

"We are advising that anyone travelling at the aforementioned areas and times on Sunday, to please make alternative plans unless it is an emergency," said the spokesman.

"Special provisions will be made for individuals travelling to the airport and airport personnel, as well as for emergencies and emergency vehicles and workers."
