Government is tracking down the owner of a dangerous road which has been closed because it could collapse.

Devon Spring Road has been blocked off since December and local MP Michael Dunkley is urging Government to get on with fixing it.

However Works and Engineering Permanent Secretary Derrick Binns said Government was trying to contact the owners of the private road to urge them to make repairs, estimated to be into six figures. If they fail to comply Government will do the work itself and send the bill to the owner. Mr. Dunkley said: ?It?s taken Government so long to get this done, they have been aware of this issue for months.?

He said if the road collapsed it would damage vehicles in the nearby car park.

?Anyone can be hurt when something falls down.?

He said residents and businesses were affected by the road closure.

Dr. Binns said Government had been sufficiently concerned to close it.

He said: ?Some of the support under the road is being worn away and there are no barriers at the edge of the road either. ?That gives some concern. It is going to be an expensive job.?

Pet Care owner Ronnie Lopes, whose business is just feet from the road, said he feared pieces hanging off the road will land on someone or their vehicle.

He said heavy construction trucks and laundry trucks going to St. Brendan?s had taken their toll on the road.

?I warn people not to park there. If I had lots of money I would fix it myself.

?There was a sign saying no heavy traffic which was like an invitation to heavy traffic.?

Neighbours were also put out because they couldn?t get easy access to their homes said Mr. Lopes.
