Cougars too strong for Rangers
Devonshire Cougars 3 Southampton Rangers 1Devonshire Cougars got the new year off to a winning start as they beat a spirited Southampton Rangers side at Devonshire Rec. last night.A first half goal from Domico Coddington and second half strikes from Moses Steede and Jamie Smith guided the Big Cats to their fourth victory of the season. Adrian Burrows scored for Rangers.In a game that was full of opportunities for Cougars, it was Rangers who took the lead when Burrows planted his effort into top left corner in the 14th minute, leaving goalkeeper Ricardo Brangman no chance. Coddington then rifled home in the 38th to level matters after a neat one two with Tumani Steede.Cougars then took the lead when Sean Perinchief inexplicably fumbled a Moses Steede long range free kick into his own net in the 57th when he had the situation seemingly covered.Tumani Steede then went close but couldn’t beat Rangers keeper Perinchief. Cougars’ third came after sustained pressure by the Big Cats, with Smith’s header deflecting in off Rangers defender Ijahmon Mallory, a former Cougars player, in the 82nd minute to make the points safe. With the win Cougars move up to fifth in the Premier Division table.
