The officers, a male and a female, were attempting to arrest a 25-year-old Sandys Parish man on Good Friday.

The man turned violent and kicked and struck out at them before the citizen -- who was not identified -- came forward and helped subdue him.

Both officers required treatment at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after the man punched and struck out at them.

A Police spokesman said Police were grateful for the public assistance and urged people to continue to provide it.

The man, who was charged with several offences, had led Police on a vehicle chase before being stopped on Somerset Road.

He is expected to appear in Magistrates' Court in the near future.

Crime reports of varying nature kept Police busy over the past three-day weekend.

They received reports of three other assaults, eight breaking and entering offences, six thefts, and one case of prowling.

All of the incidents were under investigation.

MAN STOLE TWO BOTTLES OF SCOTCH CTS Man stole two bottles of scotch Stealing two bottles of alcohol and then shoving them down his pants, cost a 30-year-old Devonshire man $125 yesterday.

Howard Joynes, of Cable Hill, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to stealing two bottles of scotch worth $62.40 from the Hamilton MarketPlace on April 1.

The manager of the store saw Joynes remove two bottles of scotch from the shelves and put them down his trousers, Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant said.

Police were called and Joynes was held at the store until they arrived.

He admitted to the offence and told an officer to "get the handcuffs and let's go''.

At the Hamilton Police Station, Joynes admitted to being under the influence of alcohol and having an alcohol problem.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis cautioned Joynes, and told him to get some help for his problem.

DRUNK DRIVER DISQUALIFIED CTS Drunk driver disqualified A 48-year-old Pembroke man who drove erratically while under the influence of alcohol, was yesterday fined $450 and disqualified from driving for a year.

Howard Berkeley of Joell's Alley pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to driving while impaired on April 4.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant told the court that a concerned citizen stopped a Police officer and reported that someone in a vehicle was driving in a dangerous manner.

While they were speaking, Sgt. Grant said, Berkeley was seen by the officer swerving around the round-a-bout at the junction of North Shore and Palmetto roads.

Berkeley turned onto Palmetto Road and crossed into the wrong lane, Sgt.

Grants said. He was later stopped by the Police.

An officer smelled alcohol on his breath, and Berkeley was asked to supply a sample of breath, which he agreed to do.

But at Hamilton Police Station, Berkeley refused the test.

"You are a danger to other people on the road,'' Senior Magistrate the Wor.

Will Francis told him before handing down the sentence.

TWO ARRESTEDE FOR DRUG OFFENCES CRM Two arrested for drug offences Police arrested two people on separate drug-related charges last week after narcotics officers acted on tips and descended on houses in Devonshire and Pembroke.

In one incident, Police took a 49-year-old Pembroke man into custody after seizing what they suspected were drugs at a Curving Avenue location.

And in the other, a 17-year-old Devonshire youth was arrested at Palmetto Road for obstructing officers under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Officers are conducting follow-up enquiries into both.
