US man charged in sexual assault freed on bail

A US visitor who is charged with sexually assaulting a woman in Paget on April 3 was released on bail yesterday, as long as he can find a surety for his $10,000 bail. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been in Bermuda looking for employment. The visitor also had to surrender his travel documents so that he would not try to flee the country. Director of Public Prosecutions Vinette Graham-Allen said the earliest date for a trial was on October 24.

The man was released on bail and is permitted to stay in guest accommodations. He must re-appear in court for the monthly arraignments session on July 4.
