Environment Minister opens school's farm, playground

Environment Minister Neletha Butterfield yesterday officially opened the Purvis Primary School Wonderland Farm and Playground.

The school applied for an environmental grant that would help it in upgrading the school grounds and yesterday Ms Butterfield said she remembered the original ground breaking ceremony in 2005 and noted progress and its completion two years later.

Ms Butterfield said: "The children here today, and many future generations of Purvis students, now have something to smile about."

Features of the playground include a multi-levelled play structure, swing set, raised planter beds, storage shed, shade structure, brick pathway and patio, picnic benches and lush landscaping.

Ms Butterfield reminded the students, teachers, parents and the community: "You must realize that it is your responsibility to ensure the playground is kept clean, safe and healthy."
