And Transport Minister Erwin Adderley said residents will have to pay a fee "just as in any parking facility in Hamilton'' once the facilities are complete.

Although local travellers have enjoyed free parking since the airport has been in operation, Mr. Adderley said similar paid parking arrangements were common overseas.

However, there will be no added security attendants or fencing around the area.

"There is a Police presence, but you park at your own risk,'' said Mr.

Adderley. "Even if you park in Hamilton you park at your own risk.'' And Mike Osborne, Airport Manager of Maintenance and Engineering, added: "There will be some landscaping that will protect and screen the area.'' "It will be much closer to the building where we have security people anyway,'' he added.

A parking fee has yet to be decided, but Mr. Osborne last year suggested $5 a day as a possible charge.
