Rotarians seek approval for a clock at –Crow Lane
Drivers stuck in traffic on their way into Hamilton could soon be reminded of how late they are.
The Rotary Club of Bermuda is seeking Planning approval for the instillation of a 12-foot, seven-inch clock in the centre of the Crow Lane roundabout.
According to the Planning application, the clock will stand on a concrete base which will be hidden by grass and landscaping.
Crafted by Ohio-based Verdin Design Group the timepiece would feature four clock faces perched on a thinner stand.
Clocks with the same design have already been installed in towns in New York, Virginia, California, Texas and New Mexico.
Approval was sought to install a statue of Johnny Barnes at the same location in 1998.
That bid failed after some in the community voiced concerns the statue might become a safety hazard with sightseers stopping to take pictures.
The statue was eventually placed approximately 100 yards away.
