Teen denies sexual assault

Magistrates’ Court

A Warwick teenager appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday to deny a charge of sexually assaulting a child.

The 19-year-old pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexually assaulting the girl, who was under the age of 16 at the time, and using a mobile phone to communicate with the same girl for the purposes of committing a sexual act.

Both of the incidents allegedly took place late last year. Neither the defendant nor the victim can be identified for legal reasons.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo released the defendant on $7,000 bail with a like surety, ordering that he avoid any contact with the victim.

The matter is scheduled to return to Magistrates’ Court for trial in June.
