Grabbing a bite in town is now smooth sailing with the opening of the H2O Cafe in the Washington Mall.
The all-day-breakfast and lunch spot has just been opened by husband and wife team Holger Eiselt and Hayley Williams as a revamped eatery on the former premises of the Take Five restaurant.
Take Five ? which had long been popular with a local clientele ? was put up on the sales block earlier this year.
Re-opened less than a fortnight, the new H2O name underscores both that the new owners have names beginning with 'H' as well as Mr. Eiselt's passion for watersports, specifically windsurfing.
In keeping with his affinity for the waves, Mr. Eiselt has mounted surf boards on the bright canary yellow walls and covered tables with sails.
And with a smile, he pointed out to that the hours posted at the cafe's entrance are 7-20 knots; or when the winds pick up he closes the door and heads for the surf.
In reality, H2O's hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
It would appear that good cuisine ? that's good in both taste and nutritional value ? is an equal passion for Mr. Eiselt who has been working as a chef for 15 years with the last seven spent in Bermuda.
Until recently, Mr. Eiselt was an executive sous-chef at the Newstead Hotel but in the last year he went out on his own by working as a private chef and caterer.
He says the logical next step for his wife and him was to open the restaurant ? and they still offer catering and private chef services, as well.
On the menu: lots of breakfast choices ? including an all day English breakfast and on Saturdays, the traditional cod fish and potatoes breakfast ? a host of sandwiches, soups, salads, daily lunch specials and tempting sounding desserts. There are also options for those with special dietary needs. Allergic to dairy products? H2O can serve up your favourite coffee drinks with soy milk. And for those sensitive to wheat products, there are wheat free pasta and sandwich options with brown rice bread.
Mr. Eiselt also stressed that across the board, the restaurant is using natural ingredients, and won't cook with MSG or add artificial colours or flavouring in its cooking.
