Restaurants flooded with calls on last night of lobster season
Bermudians have a strong taste for lobsters and several restaurants across the Island felt the rush last week when the lobster season came to an end.
The season runs from September 1 to March 31 and every year restaurants selling the coveted delicacy receive anxious calls from customers craving that last bite.
Both The Lobster Pot Restaurant and Monty?s Restaurant were able to sell Bermuda lobsters on Wednesday night ? the last night of the season ? while others were not so lucky to have fisherman supply them with the crustaceans.
Jeremy Willmott, manager of Barracuda Grill, said the restaurant had been out of Bermuda lobsters for two weeks. He added that the weather leading up to the end of the season limited the lobster?s availability.
The Lobster Pot manager Lynn Bardgett said the restaurant received 25 whole Bermuda lobsters at 5 p.m. on Wednesday after selling out the night before.
?All of our customers that ordered Bermuda lobsters were able to get them but we sell on a first come, first served basis,? she said.
?We were sold out by 8 p.m.,? she added.
Monty?s manager Ivor Traynor said: ?Since the Friday before the end of the season they were selling like hot cakes.?
The restaurant was able to get their hands on 14 whole lobsters for the Wednesday night rush.
But both managers noted that it was the normal rush to the end of the season.
?People always wait for the last minute to get their Bermuda lobsters and are often disappointed,? Ms Bardgett added.
Like Barracuda Grill, other restaurants including Port O? Call, Seahorse Grill and M.R. Onions were sold out before the last day of the season.
A manager at Port O? Call said: ?We had already sold out of our (Bermuda) lobsters by Tuesday night and we couldn?t get anymore for Wednesday.?People call and ask for them and will come on the condition that they have lobsters,? she added.
M.R. Onions successfully sold their Bermuda lobsters over the weekend but a manager added: ?We were sorry to have to turn people away on Wednesday because we didn?t have any.?
