Winning taste-makers in 2005

Cafe Gio in St. George?s cleaned up in the casual dining segment of the People?s Choice Awards in this year?s Bermuda Culinary Festival Competition. The cafe won awards for best service, best food and and best overall restaurant.

The Newport Room won best service in the fine dining category, and also best overall, but was beaten out in the best food category by the Hi Tide Restaurant at 9 Beaches at Daniel?s Head in Somerset.

Basil Outerbridge won the Outerbridge?s Cup for amateur fish chowder.

Stefan Borchardt and Sandip Roy of Cambridge Beaches won the Gosling?s Cup for professional fish chowder.

Juliana D?Estelle Roe won the junior chef competition for the second year in a row. Shannon DeRoza placed second and Jerl Dill placed third.

Nick Sauter won the Escoffier Cup final and won the title of Bermuda?s best chef for the year. He receives a trophy, $1,000 and a special cooking trip to the United States among other things.
