There were plenty of goals for three Hamilton Parish youth teams who chalked up a number of victories in the AC Milan Continental Cup soccer tournament in Ohio.

Top marksman for the Hamilton Parish Workman's Club squads was Rahzi Jones, who netted seven in four matches for the Under-10s as Bermuda shone in an international competition that attracted teams from the US, Brazil, Cameroon, Barbados, Canada, Columbia and a number of other countries.

The Hot Peppers finished second in both the Under-9 and Under-11 group tables, while the Under-10s took third spot in their group.

Each group was made up of four teams.

Earlier this year the HPWC Under-10s finished champions in the Western Soccer Tournament in Florida, with the Under-9s also going close to victory – performances which led to the club being invited to compete in the AC Milan-backed competition in Cleveland.

A total of 31 youngsters played for HPWC in the group games in Ohio between July 1 and July 4.

According to coach Phillip Burgess, the young players did Bermuda proud and marched under the Bermuda flag in an Olympic Games-style opening ceremony.

They also experienced the environs of one of the top US universities, John Carroll University, which was used as a venue during the soccer tournament.

"The continental cup prides itself on being more than just a soccer tournament.

It is a lasting memory of a total experience, combing competitive soccer, cultural exchange, entertainment attractions, shopping, and more importantly exciting activities," said Burgess. He thanked the Hamilton Parish community and sponsors, including MarketPlace, for their support in assisting the Hot Peppers in getting to the tournament in the US.
