Hapless Parish suffer relegation

Two goals: Village's Keston Lewis

Hamilton Parish’s three-year stint in the Premier Division ended yesterday at Wellington Oval with their tenth loss of the season, a 3-0 defeat against North Village.

Resigned to their fate after last weekend’s draw with Somerset Trojans left them seven points from safety and with only three games remaining, Parish went into the match without their main striker Donovan Thompson whose booking against the Trojans earned him a ban.

However, it was Village who created the early chances before Keston Lewis gave them the lead midway through the first half with the first of his two goals. Lewis then laid on the chance for captain Keishen Bean to put the final nail in the Parish coffin midway through the second half.

Assistant coach Ernest Lathan, in charge of the team yesterday in the absence of coach Phillip Burgess, admitted afterwards Parish will have to go back to the drawing board to rebuild for next season.

“It’s just been a hard season for us this year, I’m just hoping we can bounce back next year,” said Lathan, whose team finished fifth last season, ahead of Village.

It was the visiting side who broke the deadlock when Lewis converted from close range after a long ball into the box by Terryn Fray created the opening for Demetri Daniels to cross for Lewis to score.

Parish could have been back level early in the second half but Tareek Webb put his effort over the bar after the ball came off a Village defender from a corner and landed at his feet about six yards from goal.

Village doubled their lead when full back Fray’s shot was blocked by the outrushing goalkeeper Nigel Burgess blocked his shot. Lewis followed up to steer his header into the goal.

Lewis then helped put Village further ahead when he laid the ball back for Bean. Two minutes from time, frustration got the better of 16-year-old defender Jarye Bean who went and sat on the bench.
