Indoor ace Minors given regional honour
Bermudian Dage Minors has been named East Region Track Athlete of the Year for the indoor season by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Minors, a junior at Franklin Pierce University who will compete for his school at the NCAA Division II Championships in the 800 metres, is the first student in the history of the Ravens to earn Regional Athlete of the Year honours. He is ranked seventh in the nation in the 800 metres.
He won the award after taking the Northeast-10 Conference title in the 1,000 metres and anchoring Franklin Pierce’s title-winning 4 x 800 relay team. His time of 1min 49.76sec in the 800 is the fastest this winter in the country run on a standard track — and thus not requiring a time conversion.
Minors and several team-mates are scheduled to represent the Ravens at the NCAA Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas, this weekend. Preliminary heats in the 800 will take place on Friday evening, followed by the final on Saturday evening.
