Well known resident artist Jonah Jones takes the spotlight for the last of the Masterworks Foundation 's `Artists up Front! ... Street' series for this year.
His one-man show opens to the public on Saturday, September 9 at the Bermuda House Lane gallery and will continue through September 22. Admission is free.
*** The Bermuda Society of Arts is hosting its second "Hats off to the BSoA'' fund-raiser at its City Hall gallery on September 23. Described as "a celebratory end of summer dinner-dance with cocktails,'' the event will include several attractions in addition to the buffet dinner and sounds of DJ Danger Don.
Original art, cedar outdoor furniture, decorative gifts, African art, a microwave oven and gift certificates for meals, cruises, therapeutic massages, portraits, piano lessons and more are among the many items to be raffled by St. George's Town Crier and Society member Mr. E. Michael Jones .
Prizes will be awarded for original, hand-made hats -- a major feature of the event, and the source of its title.
The evening will begin at 7 p.m. in City Hall lobby before moving upstairs for the buffet. Ticket prices are: Patrons $175, Friends of the Arts $150, others $100. For further information telephone 292-3824 or e-mail kcbsoa(at)ibl.bm.
*** Plan ahead and prepare is the message from The Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard which is holding its fund-raiser, "Mardi Gras Madness,'' on October 28.
Following the opening of its "Masks'' exhibition in the west end gallery, guests will proceed to the nearby Frog & Onion pub for a three-course dinner dubbed `Taste of the Deep South,' followed by dancing "in New Orleans party mode''.
Mardi Gras decor, table favours, prize balloons and raffles are all part of the event.
The ticket price of $80 includes the meal, entertainment, a half bottle of wine, table favours, and a chance at the door prize.
Tables for six can be reserved, and guests are encouraged to come in fancy dress, Mardi Gras colours, as someone/something else -- unless, of course, they want to come as themselves.
