The Paget Lions Club presented its 1995 Memorial Scholarship Awards to two local students recently.

Mr. Paul Basden and Ms Donna Edwards each thanked the Club for the awards at its July 26 meeting.Each of the students, who represent the fourth and fifth recipients of the awards since they were established two years ago,

Each of the students, who represent the fourth and fifth recipients of the awards since they were established two years ago, will receive $1,000 to further their educations.

The scholarship fund, which was set up in remembrance of former Paget Club members, is currently worth nearly $44,000.

*** The Paget Lions Club's sister organisation, meanwhile, will celebrate its sixth anniversary this week.

The Somers Lioness Club , a similarly minded service organisation, is to hold a celebratory dinner at 7.30 p.m. at the Belmont Hotel in Warwick. A cash bar will be opened at 6.30 p.m.

The cost of the dinner is $35.

*** To mark the 50th anniversary of the Japanese surrender in the Pacific at the end of the Second World War, the Centenary Methodist Church in Smith's Parish will be holding a VJ Thanksgiving service tonight at 7.30 p.m. During the service, a collection will be made on behalf of the Bermuda War Veterans Association. Following the service, refreshments will be served in Stephenson Hall, where World War II memorabilia will be displayed.

*** Agape House , meanwhile, will host a fundraising cruise this Sunday from Albuoy's Point in Hamilton.

The $30 cruise, which includes a meal, will begin aboard the MV Georgiana at 1 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by DJ Craig (aka Bubbles Darrell).
