Campbell, Caisey cut

squad scheduled to take up residence at Warwick Camp this evening to begin intense preparations for the second round of the World Cup, which gets under way with a match against El Salvador next Sunday.

Included in the original squad of 32 submitted to the Bermuda Football Association by manager Gary Darrell, centre-back Campbell and left-back Caisey have been notable no-shows at training sessions in recent weeks precipitating the latest cuts.

Outside activities are said to be the cause of their inability to make sessions and although both have expressed their willingness to make a commitment now, Darrell had no choice but to make them a part of his cuts.

They are listed as being on standby.

With at least four players capable of playing in the middle of defence Campbell's omission does only minor damage to the squad's make-up, however Caisey is largely viewed as one of the Island's top left-sided players and would have been a likely starter if included.

Voorhees Astwood appears set to fill the void at left-back, the position he occupied against Haiti as well as during Bermuda's away leg in Antigua. And to further fortify the spot Lloyd Christopher has also been selected.

The squad is otherwise unchanged with all four overseas professionals available and number one goalkeeper Dwayne (Streaker) Adams expected to fly home from college for matches.

Still things are not all rosy with the camp situation as the Bermuda Government has thrown a stumbling block into the path through its unwillingness to release three government workers for more than two weeks...and only one of those with pay.

Those in question are Kevin Grant, who works at the Department of Planning, prison officer Dennis Brown and government accountant Christopher.

It is not completely understood as to why they are refusing to allow the players time off to represent their country, especially as those operating in the private sector -- where more problems were anticipated -- have had little trouble getting time off.

No significant injuries were revealed by Darrell even though former skipper Brown is still struggling with a leg ailment that has prevented him from representing his club, Somerset, thus far.

Members will meet at the home of the Bermuda Regiment at 7 p.m. and will stay on until the completion of the second home date against Jamaica (October 25) before returning home for a few days.

And then it is off for the away fixtures between November 1-15.
