Mechanical and air conditioning company GSC Ltd is turning up the heat on growing competition in the local HVAC industry with a line of new systems and services it says can save commercial customers at least 40 percent on their energy costs.GSC Group president Alex (Jerry) Ming said the company recently installed a Mitsubishi cooling and heating system at Gorham’s that saved that store more than 70 percent on energy usage compared to its old HVAC system. He said the company also launched a service than can help residential customers save on their energy costs. With its Real-Estate Due DiligentPro, GSC will come out and inspect a home’s heating and cooling system, make recommendations and prepare an estimate at no charge for any repairs.GSC is also ramping up staffing at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH) construction site where it a major mechanical sub contractor. Mr Ming said they expect to employ around 50 workers on the site by the end of the year.At KEMH, Mr Ming said GSC is doing all of the plumbing piping, including the domestic water piping and sanitary piping as well as most of the chilled water, heating hot water and steam piping.“We currently have a full Bermudian plumbing team on site of 20 individuals and we anticipate recruiting another ten locally to join them,” Mr Ming said. “In addition we expect another 15 individuals from overseas to compliment that crew as these persons will possess specific specialised skills regarding the large pipe and complex equipment that will be installed and commissioned for use by GSC.“All told over the next six weeks we anticipate our staffing level to climb to 50 plumbers, fitters, foremen, and project managers by the end of this calendar year.“GSC is facing fierce competition from BAS start-up Efficient Technologies, which has also become a Mitsubishi dealer, though, as Mr Ming pointed out, not an exclusive one as was suggested in a news release this week.“Today like no time in our history firms are struggling to survive,” Mr Ming said. “In so doing many are looking at the operations of others and in some instances are successfully luring their strategic relationships in an attempt to bolster their own balance sheet and income statements.“GSC is not immune to such attacks and welcomes Efficient Technologies Limited to the market. While it is true that they have been granted a Mitsubishi Electric Heating and Cooling Dealership it is false to suggest, state or report that it is exclusive.”He continued: “GSC Ltd has never been afraid of competition as we believe that this only leads to better service and benefits for you the customer. Naturally we at GSC Ltd will step up our game and will introduce better, more efficient, and more economical products and services to you in order to stay competitive. For the foreseeable future we plan to maintain our long running relationship with Mitsubishi Electric Heating and Cooling Solutions.“However given the added competition we will endeavour not to be undersold with regard to these products. There are many who seek to do what we do but few can do it better!”Mr Ming said GSC provided Gorham’s with its industry-leading Mitsubishi Electric VRF zoning system, designed to give the store unprecedented control over all of the zones in the building.“The primary energy usage savings on the new system at Gorham’s is achieving over 70 percent compared to the old HVAC systems there we are in the process of decommissioning,” he said.GSC also has a partnership with Siemens AG.“For proprietary reasons we cannot disclose the full content of such proposals however rest assured this approach is currently unavailable from any of our competitors no matter how Efficient they promote themselves of or their Technologies as being,” he said.“We also have Siemens Proprietary Programmes that achieve 20 percent to 40 percent immediate energy savings when applied to existing chiller plants. He added Bermuda was a strategic market for Siemens and to that end they have committed their Financial Services unit to work through GSC to provide financing for facility upgrades when such upgrades include outlays for lighting, fire protection, building management and controls systems, plumbing, elevators, escalators, air conditioning, etc.“This is an unprecedented service offering and one that we indeed to take advantage of with a boutique suite of key customers.”Siemens have also committed the resources of their Energy Sector Group to assist in the design, delivery, installation, financing, and support of large solar installations in Bermuda like the one proposed on the finger at the Airport, Mr Ming said.“Clearly Siemens is eager to participate in such a project and looks forward to an opportunity to meet directly with officials at Belco to drive this opportunity forward and to consider any other opportunities to assist Bermuda and its utility in achieving reductions in both the cost of delivering energy as well reductions in the pollution resulting from the supply of energy in Bermuda.”In addition, Mr Ming said GSC was offering clients “retro-commissioning” of their systems; condition surveys/reports of their plant and facility; looking into their entire building envelope and recommending energy savings and budgeting for maintenance.“From solar panel hot water heating, geothermal, ozone friendly Mitsubishi City Multi systems, Mr Slim and working with your existing system be it VAV, fan coil or an all air system, we can provide you with cost and energy savings for your facility,” he said.
