Man fined for keeping dogs without a licence

A Southampton man has been fined $1,200 for keeping two pitbull-type dogs without a licence.

Gregory Veinotte, 33, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court this morning to keeping an unlicensed adult and puppy at his Southampton residence.

The court heard that animal wardens executed a search warrant on May 14 and seized the two dogs after discovering that no dogs were licensed to that address.

A notice was left for Veinotte, who later attended the Department of Environmental Protection and took full responsibility for both dogs.

He said he took the older dog off someone who had not cared for it and found the puppy on the Railway Trail.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo handed him two $600 fines.
