Cecoy Robinson has warned the rest of the Premier Division not to count his side out of the title race.

The PHC Zebras captain fired out the defiant message after his team thrashed Somerset Trojans, the defending champions, in their own backyard on Sunday.

Zebras scored six times in a defeat that had some Somerset fans calling for the head of Keishon Smith, the Trojans coach.

Robinson believes the comprehensive nature of his side’s victory has breathed new life into their own title aspirations, despite a slow start to the season, which has left them fifth in the Premier Division.

“We’re only seven points off the top, so it’s not that bad,” Robinson said. “At the beginning of the season we were getting the chances, but we weren’t able to put them away. But now we are able to, so it’s falling for us right now. We are picking up momentum, and so we just have to keep going.”

PHC’s emphatic victory was their second straight, third overall and biggest of the season.

Casey Castle, the PHC striker, inflicted the heaviest damage with a clinically taken first half hat-trick.

Castle, who rejoined his childhood club at the beginning of the season after a brief stint at Hamilton Parish, was a thorn in Trojans’s side all afternoon, along with Julian Carpenter, the wing back, who set up two goals and scored his team’s fourth.

“Casey is playing very right now and deserved it,” Robinson, son of former PHC midfielder Cecil Robinson, said. “Julian has been pretty big for us and is working hard. He has been fairly solid, and like everybody else he just has to keep working hard.”

Rounding out the rout were Shakir Smith and Robinson, who notched his fourth goal in his last two outings, including a hat-trick in PHC’s 3-2 Friendship Trophy victory over Dandy Town four days earlier.

“It feels good to score goals and that’s what I like to do,” Robinson said. “As long as I can get into positions I have to keep putting my chances away, and hopefully I can keep it going.”

PHC will have to wait for a couple of weeks before they can close the gap even further on the league leaders.

This weekend they face Devonshire Cougars in the quarter-finals of the Friendship Trophy, before taking on Robin Hood in the league in two weeks’ time.
