Bermuda’s best young tennis players will battle it out to prove who the best in Bermuda is over the Christmas holidays

Fresh from staging the Bermuda Clay Court Championships in October, Coral Beach & Tennis Club is hosting a junior version for players 18 and under.

The Bermuda National Junior Clay Court Championships will feature singles and doubles matches for four age groups — under-12, under-14, under-16 and under-18 — with matches taking place between December 27 and 31.

Some of the Island’s best young players are expected to compete, with the likes of James Finnigan, who reached the semi-finals of the senior event, where he lost to Jenson Bascome, the top seed.

“I am very excited to be organising this tournament which we hope will see Bermuda’s promising young junior players test themselves against each other in a winter tournament,” Neal Towlson, the club’s head professional, said.

“At the recent Bermuda Clay Court Championships, players like James Finnigan did very well, now we are look forward to seeing more young players show their potential as well.

“There are talented young players both here in Bermuda and away at school and this is a chance for them to show their development since the summer”

Entry fees are $25 for the first event and $10 for each subsequent event, and entry forms are available on the Coral Beach Club website and at the Coral Beach Club tennis office.

Interested players and parents should call 239-7216 or e-mail tennis@coralbeach.bm. The deadline for entries is Christmas Eve.
